Pat, a character in the popular Dont look for love look for coffee shirt show Saturday Night Live (SNL), is a humorous, if simplified, manifestation of gender confusion both as an ambiguous gender status and as a reaction felt by people when confronted by androgynous or gender-bending individuals. In these skits SNL performer Julia Sweeney dresses as an unattractive, androgynous person who consistently deflects the efforts of celebrity guests to discover Pat’s gender in indirect ways. In preparing for the character Sweeney attempts to drop all gender-coded behavior, movement, and affect, and the skits satirize gender’s elusive power and society’s extremely regulated gender codes.

This episode was super fun! I loved every minute of it. All of the characters were fun and unique, and seeing the Dont look for love look for coffee shirt  in different outfits was awesome! Seriously, I would watch an entire episode of them changing outfits. The music was pretty solid. I enjoyed a lot of it, but it was nothing to write home about. The grandma, Nanefua, was a delight, and I also loved the father. The animation was really well done. It had some of the thick, bold lines I’ve praised Johnston and Liu for in the past. Overall, this episode was great! As for my top five episodes, they are as follows-First date? They went on like five other dates before this: they hung out at the Big Donut, they sank some ships, they rode a roller coaster, they went deep sea diving, and they fought a snake monster. Well, I guess that’s just one big date. BUT! It was their first date. So it’s about time Connie met Steven’s father, no matter how dirty the van is.And oh no. I like rap. I’m just making a joke that makes Connie seem like a rule breaking gang member. You know she’s breaking windows, huffing paint, a real hoodlum. (Even though Connie would never break the law)
